Longcut Outdoors Updated

I updated Longcut today for my cousin. The site is starting to look a lot better and showing some promise. We got a few emails back from sponsors that seem interested but we need to take the website to the next level. I really believe that we are on our way there.

Longcut Outdoors

Forgot to mention, check out the following site. My cousin has started it and I am an administrator trying to help him get it off the ground. Check it out guys!

Unknown Pain

So, since Wednesday I have had this numbing in my right thigh. It goes from my hip to my knee and has been causing a lot of pain. It started as pins and needles but it has grown to a constant burning pain. I went to the chiropractor on Thursday to see if he could loosen it up, but this was to no avail. I wasn't able to sleep Thursday night so I went to the ER early Friday morning. X-rays were taken and I was loaded up with medicine. It is thought I may have a herniated disk in my back but there is nothing showing up on the x-rays. I am going to set up appointments for physical therapy to see if I can work it out, otherwise it sounds like and MRI and possible minor surgery to relieve the pressure on the nerve, which is what seems to be causing the numbness. For now I just have to suck it up, take the pills, and hope for the best.

Wish Me Luck

First Snow

Woke up today to finally have snow on the ground! I am excited, as it feels more seaonable now. Great time of year! Mikko actually seemed to enjoy the snow now that he is finally almost 1. Jess and I are looking forward to playing in the snow with him when we are both healthy again.

Checking In

So, after a brief time away I am finally checking in again. A lot has happened while I was gone. Moss getting released, Childress getting criticized, my Packers destroying the Cowboys, the Wild starting to roll and the weather unseasonable warm.

I am not going to really touch any of those, as they are all already over-blogged, with exception maybe to the Wild. All we really had for them is Russo over at Russo's Rants. Great beat writer, check him out there and on Twitter, @russostrib.

Nothing else really going on, just trying to buckle down and finish this semester. I started bartending at a new restaurant in Woodbury, Lakes Tavern and Grill, so we will see how that goes. Everyone, stop out and say hi.

Directv Contractor Problem Today

So, my parents have signed up to have the Directv Whole Home DVR system. Today a subcontracted Directv installer was scheduled to arrive between 8 and noon. He ended up showing up to the house at 12:15. 4 hours and 15 minutes into it and the day has just begun. He spent until 4:30 aimlessly walking around the house. He changed out two boxes in the house and spent the next 4 hours and fifteen minutes walking around and playing with the satellite dish. It was obvious he had no clue what he was doing.
Now if I was an installer and didn't know what I was doing I would call and request some help. My girlfriend and I had Directv installed at the house and the whole process took 45 minutes from the time the guy got there. 4+ hours this afternoon is way extreme. This was just the start however.
When he was packing up to leave, I noticed that he did not have the internet connected to the receivers as we had requested. The best for last: The DVR is only working in my parents room and is very spotty in the main room.
I called support about the matter and they informed me that the technicians supervisor will be calling me within an hour. That was at 7pm. Finally at 9:30 I called again and was told that in fact it would not be getting taken care of but I would be getting a call in the morning. That puts us at 13.5 hours today for something I could have done in 15 minutes give or take.
We have had Directv for a good amount of time and never had any problems until this subcontractor today. It is just frustrating spending an entire weekend day sitting around watching a guy obviously completely lost.

OK rant over.

NHL GameCenter App

I got this app a week or two ago and it's really starting to get talked about the last few days. It has been released for the iPad and most popular smartphones, and it's well worth the download. I have only used the iPhone app but I am very impressed. It is a quick and easy way to pull up the leagues schedule of games for any given day. You are able to see up to date scores, look at game previews, game stats, and even shot charts. You can set up alerts to alert you of a game start and as often as every goal scored. It is a quick link to standings and news articles.

There have been a few hockey apps floating around that Apple market but the NHL did a great job with this app. I expect them to further update it to include video highlights in the future. It is well worth the download to try it out. There is not much to complain about dealing with this FREE app.

Favre with broken ankle?

So seen today around the Vikings compound, Brett Favre in a walking boot. Childress said during his press conference that Brett had a stress fracture in his ankle. Will this affect his starting streak next week @ New England?!

The Ego of Athletes

It has happened again. A professional athlete has lost all composure and gone after a fan in the stand of a sporting event. Ever since Ron Artest of the Indian Pacers went crazy after a fan at the Palace in Auburn Hills, I would have thought that athletes would stop and think twice about their actions.

That wasn't the case tonight. Vancouver Canuck center Rick Rypien, obviously frustrated with the way the game was going with Minnesota leading 5-1 in the second period, took a run at Minnesota Wild winger Brad Staubitz, whom he had lost a fight to earlier in the game (seen here). Rypien took a late punch at Staubitz in front of the Wild bench before being escorted back to the Canuck bench by the officials. Rypien put up a struggle with lineman Don Henderson while leaving the ice. As he made his way down the tunnel, Rypien took out his remaining aggression on a Wild fan sitting first row behind the bench, clapping, almost as a mockery, towards the center as he headed down the tunnel. Rypien leapt forward, grabbing the fan and tugging a little bit before letting go and heading down the tunnel escorted by Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault. You can see the footage here. Wild Feed

It just makes me stop and wonder, what are these athletes thinking?! Why in the world would you think it would be ok to go after a fan? It's one thing to make a gesture or even a comment aimed at a fan, but never ever would it be ok to grab a fan. This fan was clapping his hands and Rypien's frustration got the better of him and he flipped. There is this ego among athletes that they feel they have these privileges above and beyond what is expectable. Don't get me wrong, every major sports league out there is full of athletes that would not even think of harming a fan, the main provider of the athletes salary, but it is the few out there that taint the image.

I believe whole-heartedly that Rypien will face some sort of suspension from the league for this, and honestly I believe it's viable to be around 10 games. A message needs to be sent that this is not acceptable. If there is ever a time that the league needs to be overly strict it is now. When a player gets involved with a fan, the league is walking a thin line. This is not acceptable and Colin Campbell should make that very clear in the next few days.

This Video Couldn't Wait

This was Brent Burns absolute finesse goal from Saturday against Columbus. I was at the game but was up getting a beer at the time go figure. Missed the Staubitz fight and the Burns goal. Insert youtube greatness here.

Finally Friday

It's finally Friday again. That means the weekly youtube video of the week...

This weeks is a video of a little Favre karma as explained by Madden 96

Prayers for Jess

I took Jess into urgent care yesterday afternoon for excessive pressure on her head. She was given a spinal tap to relieve this pressure from her spine and head. The pressure was on the way up, and was pretty high already. The doctors aren't exactly sure of the cause but they are working on it. She had this same thing happen 5 years ago, so it's really hard to see her go through it again.

She has some doctor appointments over the next few days. It will be a rough week as she is some pain but she it tough and I know she will fight through it.

Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated

Randy Moss

According to Channel 5 news, "Randy Moss refused to talk to reporters in the locker room and swore at them. The circus is back in town"

Wow, but really did you expect anything else?!

Why not the iPhone

So I was sitting here reading about the new Windows Phone 7 thinking to myself, why not the iPhone.....

Why are people sooooo against the iPhone? I have the iPhone 4 and I will never go to anyone other phone besides an iPhone...

Let me hear it people, what is stopping you?

Already Slacking

Well look at that, I am already slacking this blogging thing.

I have been just way to busy lately to keep up with this. I think about it every day but just haven't had the time to sit down and type.

First off, there may be some exciting, personal news for me coming up this week. Crossing my fingers on that one. I will know more this week. Wish me luck....

Now, the NFL...Really hard to see my packers dropping one by one this year. Lee, Finley, Pickett, Matthews, and Rodgers all suffered injuries this week. Every single one of them impact players. Had the chance to be a great year in GB this year but I really don't see much good coming with this many impact injuries.

The Wild are back from Finland, practicing today for the first time. At times the team looked better while in Finland but man, we cannot afford a slow October. It just doesn't cut it in the NHL.

I will leave you with this for the day...Wonder how many games he will get

Great Weekend

After a long weekend it's finally back to River Falls. Why does your own bed always feel so comfortable after a few nights away?

Now time to catch up on the DVR and class in the morning before my interview.

Football Sunday

My Green Bay Packers are trying to use the game this week against the Lions to gain some confidence back after a horrendous game in Chicago Monday night.

Nothing really beats a Sunday afternoon in America. Really, what is better then watching football and drinking beer all day?

Wow, Epic Fail

To say the least, my attempt at a blog failed.....miserably as it has in the past. I think I am going to give myself one more chance to make this work. This will be the final straw...if I can't keep up with it, then well, I guess the blogging world isn't right for me.

I went to see "The Social Network" today. I would recommend it for anyone that is even half-heartedly into any type of online social network, which honestly would include just about everyone. It was a great story, highlighting how Facebook came to what it is now, and the struggles a young college junior got himself into, when this now billion dollar company was skyrocketing faster then he could ever imagine. I will leave it at that, I am not the best at movie reviews, just go see it.

Like I said, I am going to really give this one more shot. I am looking on my iPhone as we speak at a way I could post from there. It looks like may just have visit on my browser, we will see how that goes. I am on my iPhone way more then my macbook so we will see.

I look forward to see what I can grow to this year.
